The county
Mentone (the only town) (county seat)
Created in 1887, organized in 1893, dis-organized in 1897, then re-organized in 1931, making it the only Texas county to be organized twice. Named for Oliver Loving, the 'Dean of Texas Trail Drivers' (of Lonesome Dove fame). The least-populated county in the United States, and the most prolific Delaware Basin oil county per capita on Earth.
